Roof Repair
Leaky roof? When you find yourself in need of roof repair, be
sure to hire a professional roofing contractor who is experienced and
licensed to perform this critical work. Remember your roof doesn’t just
sit on top of your house looking beautiful; it protects everything
inside your home too. Here are some tips to help protect your roof and
your home before bad weather strikes.
- Be proactive, don't wait to spot a leak coming through your
ceiling. Very small leaks can go undetected for months that can go on
to become major problems. Go into your attic during the next heavy rain
fall and check for moisture in the rafters.
- Keep trees and shrubs next to the house trimmed back so
that branches don’t scrape against the roof. Scraping can cause major
damage to your roof. Every spring and fall, clean out your rain gutters
and the valleys in your roof that can become clogged with leaves,
sticks or debris. Clogged gutters can inhibit rain water from draining
away as it should.
- The most common places where leaks occur is where your roof
joins the sidewall of your home. Other common places for leaks are
around skylights, fireplace chimneys and venting pipes.
- Individual missing or damages shingles should be replaced
as soon as the damage occurs. If you notice any loose shingle tabs,
these can be treated by applying asphalt roofing cement.
When your home needs roof repair, don't wait until after the
winter or heavy storm season ends. Call your roofing contractor as soon
as you notice any damage to your roof. Remember that replacing your
roof is only a fraction of the potential cost of restoring your home’s
interior and replacing your home's furnishings and possessions.
